He Wants Your Vote

I try to stay positive about politicians. Every time we turn around some political figure has “stuffed money in the fridge.” Let’s get personal. Do you think a public figure has a private life? Can any of us maintain two separate characters?

I frequently hear people say that when we first meet people, we really meet their “representative.” Clearly I understand the concept of fronting. But the same person merely hides their true self or pretends to possess attributes naturally foreign to their character.

A person’s character weaves itself throughout the actions of that person so that both the “private” life and the “public” life have but one source. Sooner or later a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing will get hot and uncomfortable but until then he will act like a mighty strange sheep. For politicians sometimes their voting record can help us match the inside with their smiles and campaign promises.

In an ironic way, God campaigns like a Politician. While God does not pander to us for our vote He wants it. He goes through the trouble of explaining His character in the Bible. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” This means His campaign promises are true. And if we elect Him to be the “president” of our lives, we become constituents of Heaven.
