Is God a Democrat or a Republican?

In American culture, faith and politics go together like peanut butter and jelly. From the foundation of this country faith has shaped the political scene and in turn our government. While the partnership between faith and politics exists, the survival of each depends on different sources.

With or without politics faith still exists. While this statement seems elementary have you ever stopped to wonder what would happen if the government became a dictatorship? Communist? What if America ceased to exist? Faith simultaneously governs and stands outside of the minutia of life.

Does this mean we need not vote? Of course not. But if our candidate loses or the political party of our choice only controls half of Capitol Hill, the prosperity of this country should not dictate our faith in God. We ask God to bless America but if our daily experience seems to contradict that prayer faith in God should remain steadfast.

While we scream for the separation of church and state, I am not sure we really mean government without God. Any goodness we experience even in the cruelest of situations is because of the presence of God, “…for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matthew 5:45

As America continues to pull away from the principles of God we draw nearer to the consequences of His absences. However, life without God is not all that sweet. It’s like peanut butter and jelly without the jelly.
