Do Not Fall for the Social Norm Traps
An old TV show recently aired an episode that struck me as odd. A guy, let’s call him Bob, revealed to his brother, let’s call him Larry, that he was gay. Well, Bob could see that Larry was struggling with this new piece of information. He wanted to know if Larry thought any differently about him. The episode concluded with the siblings realizing that Bob’s sexual preference would not redefine their relationship. I did not realize TV shows addressed homosexuality over 20 years ago.
Fast forward to today where homosexuality is no longer hidden and no longer limited to late night adult TV shows. Most TV shows now depict characters and families living gay lifestyles and even openly dismiss the validity of a Biblical reason for not accepting this lifestyle. Homosexuality has crept into society as a norm.
As a society we say, if by not saying anything, we agree with this view. We need to address the issue and love the person. If Larry had disapproved of Bob’s gay lifestyle, would that mean he loved him less? As a society, we have been persuaded that we have the option to physically express our love to whoever we want, whenever we want. God has stated things that are wrong, and do not please Him. This includes all sexual immorality, sex outside of a male-female marriage, not just homosexuality (Romans 13:13; 1 Corinthians 6:13, 1 Corinthians 6:18).
If you are in the midst of or debating a sexual relationship outside of marriage , suchness displeases God. I encourage you to let God guide you into a proper relationship.
