Celebrating Christmas

Spread the love

How do you celebrate Christmas?  Are you drawn to shop by the daily emails in your inbox or the commercials on TV with “today only” or “this week only” sales trying to buy gifts to fill the space under the Christmas tree?  But is that all there is to Christmas?

I encourage you to to not let Christmas be solely focused on the shopping but an opportunity to show love to others and let them know how they have positively impacted your life.  This is not merely with monetary gifts. Try giving gifts of time like visiting, or chatting at a coffee shop, or of your talents like cooking a meal, providing a ride or helping to decorate their house.  Christmas is not just a time to receive but an opportunity to give.

We get to see what giving truly is through Jesus. Not many people choose to leave a mansion in a secure gated community to live in a roach infested apartment in the poorest crime ridden area of town. But symbolically, that is exactly what Jesus did the first Christmas morning. Why did Jesus do such a thing? The answer is simple. He loves us, just as we are right now. He joined us here on earth to be an example of how we should live and treat each other. Ultimately, He suffered and died so if we accept Jesus as our Savior we can live with Him in heaven’s mansions forever.

But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
