You Better Not Embarrass Me

An Inspirational Thought

As the world celebrates and loves mothers during the month of May, I can’t help but think of my wonderful mother. My mom suddenly passed away back in 1993. I was not prepared for that loss. Oh the things I would have said and done to remind her how much she was loved and how much she inspired me.

I believe her relationship with Jesus Christ is the reason she carried herself as a mother and person who inspired and influenced.  2 Timothy 3:16 reads “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” I believe God’s Word is to be used to inspire us to be more Christ-like so that we can win others.

Back in the day this is how my mother inspired me, she told me “You better not embarrass me.” My mother inspired me to be great in her own special way, whether it was her telling me to remember all my lines in every Christmas and Easter play I participated in, or making sure I practiced so I could hit all the right notes when playing my violin. I didn’t know at that time she was nurturing the gifts, talents, and abilities God had given me. She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. As a little kid, I could not have comprehended if my mother told me God wants to use your gifts to bring Him Glory, but what I could understand and comprehend immediately is, “You Better Not Embarrass Me.”  WOW, those words motivated and inspired me to give it my all so I could make my mom proud.

Imagine how much more powerful and influential our churches, our communities, our families would be today if we inspired more and criticized less. I believe we as people of God should do the inspiring and let God do His work in people’s lives.

Thanks Mom
