I Am Free and My Past Cannot Hold Me in Chains

Broken & Ashamed

One of the most difficult things that Christians have to face, is the fact that many of us, did not follow the commandments of God, before we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. For too many of us, we feel broken and ashamed when it comes to our past sins, especially sexual sins. However, we must know and understand that in Christ, God sees us as being brand new the moment we accept his son. You may not be a virgin but when you come to Christ, the Lord grants you secondary virginity (the intentional abstaining from sex outside of a covenant marriage). It does not matter who you were with before you came to Christ or even if you have encountered sexual inappropriate behavior since accepting Jesus as your Lord. Repent. That is to say, stop what you are doing that you know is displeasing to God. Always remember, closeness with the loving God of creation, is only possible when we as believers are unafraid to be naked and unashamed in his presence. When you are honest with God, you become free. If we are honest with God about our past mistakes and inappropriate sexual behavior, we will find that God is compassionate and loving because of our savior Christ Jesus.

Flee from Temptation Daily

Falling into sexual sins as Christians can be devastating both physically and emotionally. So dear one, if you are struggling with maintaining the standards of God when it comes to living sexually pure, be practical about your lifestyle and behavior. Flee, i.e., stay away from sexual intimacy that is not approved of by God. Fleeing sexual sin means doing all we can to avoid dishonoring God with our bodies and mind. As a sacrifice, that may mean restricting what we look at online in movies and television, or being more careful about what social situations we place ourselves in, as we protect and guard our hearts. This is why God gives us such instructions as, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. (Proverbs 5:1-2). Take it one day at a time, and remember, you are not a slave to sin, but you are liberated by the blood Jesus shed at Calvary!
