Who made summer so much fun!

As a teen summer meant fun. My friends and I went to parties, the movies, and hung out at the lakefront. We stayed on the phone all night long and slept until noon. My best friend and I had a special phone signal that meant I’m ready to talk. I would call her and let the phone ring once. Then I would sit by the phone and wait for her to call me back. As soon as I heard the faintest sound of the ring I would snatch up the phone in hopes that my parents wouldn’t hear. Then we would talk all night long about the same stuff over and over again. Summers were so much fun.

The lazy days of summer exist somewhere in childhood for some of us. Life changes. In college we work between semesters and as life progresses summer takes on different forms. However, it still burns in our hearts as a time when something has ended, and we rest in wait of what’s to come. We plan road trips, vacations and cook-outs to share good times and relax from the grind of life. Summer just works this way.

I think we sometimes give God far less credit than is due Him for the good times we have in this life. God is the author of summertime fun. It may be hard to trace Him through our giggles and the sandy beaches of the Bahamas because the Bible seems so serious, but He’s there.

I know the best thing we can do is to always enjoy life, because God’s gift to us is the happiness we get from our food and drink and from the work we do. Ecclesiastes 3:12, 13 (CEV)
