Image v Identity
How can you find your identity and purpose?
In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, you learn about the creation of the Earth and everything in our world including us. You learn that you are created in the image of God (Genesis, chapter 1, verses 26 and 27). This means that you have characteristics like the One who created you, like a child bears a resemblance to her parent.
In addition, God says that humanity are the bosses of the Earth, as God’s representative. However, in Genesis 3, Adam and Eve (the first man and woman) decide they wanted to be their own boss and rebelled against God, cutting off humanity’s relationship with God. Humanity has been lost ever since, because without God we do not have a reference for our purpose and moral truth, and thus no real Rules (standards for living).
To help you find your way back to Him, God comes down in human form (read the Gospel of John in the New Testament of the Bible). Jesus says in John, chapter 1, verse 6, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Jesus is the only way to know the truth about the goal of existence and how to attain life after death. In your journey to knowing who you are, you need to mend your relationship with God. In so doing, you get to know Him and His purpose for your life. When you have purpose, you find content and peace in your journey of life.
