God’s Candidate
A friend of mine asked me if I had gotten the 411 from God about who to vote for. The question is interesting. Does this mean that God could have told people from an older generation who experienced a very different racial environment to vote for a certain candidate? Then there are others who He would prompt to vote for the candidate that could fix the economy. Perhaps God let’s us choose candidates like we choose careers, according to our passions, and we should respect our differences.
Unfortunately we cannot tell from the results of an election if God endorsed a candidate. Sometimes leaders like Hitler ascend to power but can still be used by God to accomplish His intentions. In Romans 9:17 God talks about raising a wicked leader so that ultimately His own name would be proclaimed throughout the earth. While this may seem strange, God’s ultimate goal is to be the ruler of Earth. All that we are experiencing will culminate with the rule of God. The Bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10,11) That’s like saying most high President to the nth degree.
So, back to the question…I struggled answering her question because I didn’t recall directly asking God for an answer. I do know that I wrestled with the issues and the principles I’ve learned from God. However, I have a feeling if God told us the answer to who the best candidate is, He would probably say, “Me.”
