Food: The Great Connector by Julia Bolden
When was the last time you heard the phrase, “Would you like to join me for dinner?” How about dinner and a movie?” or “Let’s grab a cup of coffee!” Being someone who loves food those pickup lines have always worked on me.
In most cases, the person offering such an invitation is seeking a deeper understanding of who someone is and what one has to offer. Whether it’s bagels in a business meeting or date night amid filled with an aroma of Italian herbs, most relationships are developed over something a meal, making food a great connector.
As we enter into this holiday season filled with fine cooking and family traditions, don’t forget to make that connection or in some cases re-connection. Go home this year. Sit down over a meal with family and friends. But this time, make it meaningful. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says: Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Be prepared to discuss matters that bring inspiration, heal wounds, and promote unity. I bet someone is waiting for you with opened arms.
So, here are a few ideas for topics of discussion:
Passion: If money were no object and you could do anything you wanted to do, what contribution would you make to the world and why?
Goal Setting: Where would you like to see yourself in the next 5 years? 10 years? What steps are you currently taking to accomplish these goals?
Intimate Thoughts: What is your greatest joy? What is your greatest fear? What or who is your source for inspiration?
