New Year’s Resolutions
Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:5
As with every New Year, the commercials start in December advertising products that will magically (at least it sometimes seems) help you stop smoking or lose 50 pounds in just 4 months! Some of these commercials also claim to address the common problem that plagues us all, the starting and stopping again, basically maintaining commitment to meet your goal.
I know I have that problem. Things go well for a while. I have my meals planned and healthy food in the house. I exercise, drink my water, eat an abundance of fruit and vegetables, minimize fat and focus on lean proteins and whole grain carbohydrates. But then it happens, one day the fridge is empty and I am famished. One meal at a fast food restaurant won’t hurt, I tell myself. Then all of a sudden, I am off on the wrong path battling with the same bad habits.
The Bible reminds us to commit ourselves and our plan to God as He can help us meet our goals. I have to remember that God is there fighting for me. If I put my trust in Him, He can curb my appetite, guide me to delicious healthy food when I would rather eat junk, and He can strengthen my commitment to reach my goal.
So I am starting this year, committed to dine on a variety of fruits and vegetables, drink my water and exercise, all the while praising God for His faithfulness.
