God has something special for you

I come from a family with four children. I am amazed that my parents did not go bankrupt keeping food on the table for all of us children, considering our expansive appetites.

Every now and then, my mother would serve dessert after a hearty dinner. The dessert was usually fresh baked oatmeal cookies, bread pudding or apple pie – everyone’s favorite. Whenever dessert was served, my brothers and I would suspiciously look at one another, to ensure that no one received a bigger slice of the pie, although I assure you, there was more than enough for everyone.

Sadly, many of us as children of God, look suspiciously at our spiritual brothers and sisters, like we did at dessert time, when a fellow believer receives a blessing from the Lord, covetously believing that God has forgotten us.  As children of God, we do not have to covet anyone’s gift, talent, wealth or financial blessing.

God spoke to His people back in the day regarding coveting, which is inappropriately craving or desiring something that belongs to someone else. God said, and it is still relevant today, “No lusting after your neighbor’s house—or wife or servant or maid or ox or donkey. Don’t set your heart on anything that is your neighbor’s” (Exodus 20:17).

When we stay connected to God and walk in His will, what others receive has no bearing on our life. God has plenty. Rest on His promise to all of His children, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
