Achieving your New Year Resolution

January 2022 is here and so is another opportunity for commitment and change. In an endeavor to improve ourselves, many of us make new year resolutions and look forward to accomplishing our goals. It is okay to make new year resolutions as long as they’re aligned with God’s will. (By the way, you need to know God to know His will for your life.)

Now, we know there is nothing magical or special about January that will make our new year resolutions come true. However, January is the beginning of the new year and is the perfect time to dedicate or recommit one’s self to achieving a new goal or resurrecting an old goal. If we are alive to see January, then we have, in a certain sense, been given a fresh opportunity to begin anew.

The word of God lovingly declares, “Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37: 4-6). This Scripture gives us assurance that if we dedicate ourselves to the will of God and seek His guidance as we lay out our new year goals or resolutions, He will give us the ability to accomplish them and we will give Him the praise!

Be aware, the enemy of your soul may whisper to you, “What’s the point? You had this same resolution last year and accomplished nothing. You didn’t lose weight, you didn’t get a new job and you are likely to end 2022 the same way you entered it.” If the enemy says this to your spirit, fight with the Word of God. Pray every day, and proclaim out loud to God, “In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me” (Psalm 25:1-2).
