Many people have their own understanding of what the Bible says about sexuality. However, it is very important that we study to know not what a person thinks, but what the word of God tells us. In line with this month’s theme of sexuality God’s way, we are this studying Romans 1: 21-32 to learn more about what God says about rejecting Him including sexuality our own way.

Romans 1: 21 – 22 – For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools,

In case you do not know, God created us to glorify Him. However, you have a choice to glorify Him. Many, instead, become foolish and believe that their success is based not on God but their work. If that happens to you, you begin to believe in your heart that you are the reason that you can accomplish your goals; therefore, you give no recognition, glory or honor to God. This starts your downfall into deeper sins.

Romans 1: 23 — and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

You may be smart, educated, and well-read and foolishly choose to place God on a shelf with your other awards. Your status causes you to worship everything except the true and living God, like your car, your title, or your house. Did you forget that God allowed you to get up, make it to work, do the things you did in order to receive great results, yet you want all the glory and praise? You have free will to reject God and continue your path of rejection.

Romans 1: 24-25 — Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

When you decide not to give glory to God, you open yourself to thoughts in your imagination, which may dishonor God and dishonor your body. You lie to yourself and others that what you are doing is right.

Romans 1: 26-27 — For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

One of the purposes God created men and women was to marry, be fruitful, and multiply. There is no way that two women or two men can multiply. Women are changing the natural use for which their bodies were created when they give their body to another woman. A woman’s body is designed to receive a man when they become one in marriage.

Romans 1: 28 – 32 — And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

God has never forced us to worship Him. God has given us free will. God hates all the sins that we commit. Even though same sex relationships and marriage are legal and socially accepted, it is still a sin just like envy, gossip, murder and fornication.

The pleasure that you desire through the lust of your body will cause you to lose your soul if you never believe what you are doing is wrong and ask God to forgive your sins. Romans 1:32 states that those who practice such things are worthy of death. Death is not only a physical death as we all die but the pleasure of satisfaction for the body will cause you to be eternally cut off from God.

Are you struggling with sin? Pray to God, seeking forgiveness of your sins. Ask God to move you out of your sinful situation. Will the move be easy? No. But with God, it can happen. God can not only move you out but turn your heart back to Him and show you how not to return to a life of sin. There are so many wonderful things God will do for you when you give your life to Him completely.

Don’t know where to begin? You may begin by praying this prayer – Lord, I am a sinner; I need you to come into my life. Today, Lord, I am surrendering my heart, soul, body, and mind to you. I want to live a life starting today that will be pleasing to you. My desire is to glorify you in the way I live and all that I do each day. Please Lord, forgive of my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and through Jesus I will have eternal life. I want to live for you each day. I surrender to you today; it is in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
