All the single ladies, all the single ladies! Hey, single ladies, do you desire a romantic relationship? If so, have you given thought to qualities beyond physical appearance? While a handsome face doesn’t hurt, may I suggest considering someone who is potentially marriage material?

Some important characteristics are:

  •      God fearing (God is in the center of his life)
  •      Respectful (does not cross your moral, physical, and emotional boundaries)
  •      Honest (free of deceit and untruthfulness)
  •      Open (willing to truthfully express himself)
  •      Trustworthy (able to be relied on, dependable)
  •      Thoughtful (concerned about the needs of others)
  •      Confident (secure in himself and his relationship with you)
  •      Mature (developed and balanced in his personality and emotional behavior)
  •      Gentle and nonviolent (has great self-control and self-restraint)
  •      Desirous of growth (seeks a life of purpose, not willing to become stagnant)
  •      Committed (remains faithful through thick and thin)
  •      Empathizing (considerate of what others are going through)
  •      Kind (watch his reactions to others in his environment—waitresses, strangers, animals, etc.)
  •      Loyal (never yields to cheat on his partner)
  •      Well groomed (speaks volumes about his character. Check his hygiene, diet, etc.)
  •      Genuine (consistent behavior even when not observed by others)
  •      Affectionate (within appropriate boundaries)
  •      Forgiving (able to release feelings of resentment)

The above are just a few checkpoints. However, the most important factor in establishing a romantic relationship is that we allow God, our Creator, to take control of our lives, and then, check to see if the potential prospect is doing the same in his. If he is, more than likely he will possess some remarkable qualities which can lead to a worthwhile relationship.

A sure bit of instruction to help you make decisions in life (even in choosing a boyfriend) is found in the Bible in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Be blessed!
