Who is the Real Deal? A True Friend?
If I could list three characteristics of a friend they would be approachable, truthful, loving. I enjoy being with people who enjoy spending time with me. Proverbs 18:24 KJV A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. In my opinion, we must spend time together for the friendship to grow. It does not mean we talk daily, but we connect and develop over time.
I do not want a friend that always agrees with me especially when I am wrong I need a friend that will be truthful. Even if it’s uncomfortable, giving me wise counsel saves me from destruction and disappointment. A friend, even in my ignorance and sometimes willful downfalls, loves me and is patient with me. We all have had moments where we were not living up to who we were created to be. That is why we need honest friends who tell us the truth with love. Proverbs 19:20 KJV Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end, you will be counted among the wise. Proverbs 13:20 KJV Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
A loving friend cares about my overall well-being.The love of a friend is consistent. Love will protect you. Love will rescue you. Love will correct you. Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all time, and a brother is born for adversity. With social media, many of us have hundreds of “friends”. However, everyone you consider a friend may not love you. 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be misled: “Bad Company corrupts good character.” Unfortunately everyone cannot be a friend. We all come to have values and standards and need to rely on those strong rooted beliefs to steer our selection of friends. Ecclesiastes 4:10 If either of them falls down, one can help up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. No one person can survive this life alone. We all need friends. We know this because the Bible speaks on it. The number one friend to have is Jesus! Pray for your friends.
