Seasonal Friendships are to be Expected

I have had my fair share of friendships that I thought would last forever only to find out that they were only seasonal. When they ended, I have cried out of hurt and confusion. I fussed and complained because I didn’t understand how a friend who promised me forever all of a sudden disappeared from my life. And I’ve had friendships that appeared to go the distance cut short. Whether the friendship end because of a disagreement, growing apart, a change in geographic location, or any other variety of reasons, some friendships are destined to end.

A few things to consider about friends. Not everyone is meant to go everywhere you’re going in life. Some people come into our lives to teach us things, share experiences, and make memories. Some friendships we need to celebrate that they ended when they did because they caused more harm than good. Nevertheless, the one thing I have learned through transition of these friendships is to rely solely on God to get me through.

What’s so countercultural about seasonal friends? When we hurt, we tend to close up to protect our hearts. Or, we want to star in the next big revenge movie. If we understand the cycle of friendships, we can allow ourselves to cherish the fond moments with our friends, reveal the right secrets, and allow God to heal us! He has ordained a time for everything, and His timing is perfect! Trust Him through the process.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Unfortunately, at times this also can apply to friendships.

Do you have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ?
