Are you sure you have the right friends?

My friends tell me the truth. They speak up when they feel I am wrong or need a nudge in a different direction.  Friends who tell you the truth can help you avoid decisions that you regret.

I specifically remember a few years back, I wanted to go to a local club to hear gospel jazz, but unknown to me the club featured a scene that was more club than gospel. I shared that information with a friend and she quickly said, if you are going you will surely not be going without me, because she knew something I didn’t. Once we arrived, she ordered me water, instead of what people usually order in a club like I may have done. I was in a very rebellious time in my life, and my friend recognized that I needed a nudge in the direction that she knew God would have me to live.

That evening after the quick gospel jazz selections the whole scene changed to some other type of setting that was uncomfortable for me. People were interacting in ways I was not accustomed. I never went back to another club afterwards. Maybe my friend was listening to wisdom and with her nudges God used her to keep me safe from making bad decisions.

Friends who allow you to live any kind of lifestyle, do not really love you.  Love protects you.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:12-13
