How To Spot A Generous Man

Spread the love

Growing up I was boy crazy. My friends and I would talk for hours about cute guys we didn’t even know. We could care less if he respected females or if he cheated on his tests. We were young and we liked guy. What’s the harm in that? Well, I eventually found out.

Thinking back, I realize that I needed to know how to snoop out a good man. The cute “young and boy crazy stage” turned into an adult life philosophy. When I grew up my standards for a man still consisted of physical attractiveness at the expense of having a spiritually and emotionally mature man who could love me well. Tears and heartbreak have a way of developing a girlish perspective into that of a woman.

Of the many traits we look for in a man, how often does generosity make the list? Spotting a generous man could be quite simple even when he is college broke. Money does not a generous man make. Does the guy you like give just to give, or does he always expect something in return. Does he care about the welfare of others? For instance, does he volunteer his time to help others? A generous man “gives what he’s got,” be it time, talent, attention or money.

I know it’s Christmas and the kind of generosity we are all talking about is the kind that gives good gifts. The gift of Christmas is precisely Who shows us what generosity looks like in the flesh. Jesus gave Himself selflessly for the salvation of the world so that whoever wants to spend eternity with God has that opportunity because He loves us. A generous man willingly sacrifices for those he loves. A generous man is the gift that keeps on giving.

A generous God gave us the ultimate Christmas gift: This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.(John 3:16, The Message Bible)
