An important aspect of living a prosperous life is avoiding patterns or lifestyles that lead to poverty. Our culture glamorizes premarital sex but there is a dark side that negatively affects the African-American community. The 2008 census says that 41% of single female led households live below poverty levels, while only 7% of married couples live below poverty levels. Twenty-nine percent of African-American households are female led with no husband compared to 17% of all races.

I find these to be amazing statistics. Your goal should be to prevent yourself from being among these statistics (not by any means necessary-read on). Even if you already have had children outside of marriage, God still loves you and has a plan for you. The decisions you make today will affect your tomorrow.

Waiting to get married to have sex may be challenging, but don’t give in to lust. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says “No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face.” A practical benefit of having a relationship with God through Jesus is the supernatural ability God can give to you to resist temptation and behaviors that may negatively affect you.

God’s plan for the family includes a mother and a father. God’s plan is for us to have sex and children after marriage, with two people to financially, physically and emotionally care for the children. God has a reason for a plan and His plans work.
