Too Busy for God?
Between the daydreams and phone calls, and anything else that would capture my attention, I would scramble around in a somewhat chaotic cloud. An hour later I would emerge ready for the world. Perhaps my one hour routine could take only half the time, but I built in time to attend to my distractions. My days would overflow with these harmless little distractions that would nibble away my time. By the end of the day, I had added more things on my “to-do” list than I had actually completed. Finally I decided that I needed to deal with my distracting distractions.
I imagine distractions that keep us from hearing God’s voice work much the same way. Jesus teaches us in John 10:27 that His sheep hear His voice and He knows them and they follow Him. Too often we don’t believe God exists because we won’t take the time to find out. God is constantly trying communicating with us. We, on the other hand, are so busy that we can’t hear Him through all of the distractions we have become accustomed to in our lives. After we pamper all of our little pet distractions, we don’t have any time left to listen.
So before you falsely accuse God of being dead, you may want to examine your life. Ask yourself if you have taken the time to seek Him and listen to His voice. It may be time you learn to manage all of those “harmless little” distractions.
