Thank You

Thank you is a common response we say to show our appreciation when someone shows us an act of kindness. We use it all the time, when someone opens the door for us, even when the server gives us extra ketchup at a fast food restaurant. Sometimes we say the words with a smile. Many times these gestures of thanks are to strangers we just happen to encounter during our busy day.

How differently do we feel when we open the door for someone and they walk briskly by pretending like we don’t even exist or worse, like we were required to do it? Our feelings are hurt and occasionally to the point that we decide to never do that again!

I thank God that He does not treat us the way we at times treat others. He still is kind to us even when we dismiss what He has done in our lives. Maybe you are struggling to see how God is working in your life. How about He woke you up today? Or maybe He helped you find your misplaced keys and you were able to get to work on time?

If you are not in the habit of thanking God for some of the smaller things that happen in your life, I challenge you to start actively looking for reasons to thank God. Not something elaborate, just a whispered “thank you” during the day.

Psalm 147:7 “Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp.”
