The Unconditional Love of Our Father

Spread the love

As a child, I would frequently read Greek myths concerning the tales and exploits of the gods on Mount Olympus. Invariably, the stories would include Zeus, the chief god, positioned on high, ready to hurl thunderbolts at humans who erred or transgressed. Sadly, as a child, I also realized that with regard to the true Lord of creation, Jehovah, I and many Christians, viewed our Lord, in the same manner as we do the fictitious Zeus.

I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as a young teenager. In the early years of my walk with the Lord, I found it difficult to trust and serve Him because I viewed Him as Zeus. I wrongly assumed the God of creation’s sole purpose in my life was to make sure I didn’t have any fun, and punish me when I messed up. Thankfully, when I was about fifteen years old, the Lord blessed me to meditate on the passage John 15:13-17.

This passage of Scripture helped me realize that God is not like Zeus or any other fictitious god. He is Creator God and our Father. He cares for us and loves us unconditionally. God wants a real, loving relationship with us. We are a part of the family of God. When we fall short or do wrong, God is more interested in repentance and restoration than punishment. Rest assured knowing that you can say, “my Father loves me” and because of His love, you and I are friends of God! We do not have to be afraid of our Father and friend. What a mighty God we serve.
