Amos 3:3 Can two walk together unless they are agreed?

Dating is complicated, period. Going through the process of finding someone to “do” life with can be challenging. Dating requires our emotions, time, finances, and commitment. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Consequently, boundaries are important because relationships impact our lives. One wrong connection can take us down a long road of regrets.

We all have principles, values, and life goals that we hold dear. When we allow someone in our lives, it is critical to think about the importance of sacrificing for another person, even if it’s just a first date. Even first dates and dating casually can have adverse effects. Your time is valuable. Your heart is valuable.

I value my relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. If someone is asking me to do things that force me to disobey God that is an automatic reason to reconsider that connection. Dating connections have significant effects on our emotions, and decisions, and can be a distraction. But the journey to finding that right person can be a beautiful dance filled with joy and excitement when done the way God says to do it.

On the surface, photos, social media platforms, and real-time dating can be fun. Dating apps, commercials, TV shows, movies and so many voices try to give us advice on dating. God’s plan for our lives is of the utmost importance. If we pay attention, God can guide us. We will pick up on signals, and warnings that urge us when we need to change directions. And we will get good, reliable wisdom regarding who we should spend our valuable time and life with.

Setting boundaries allow us to wait and be patient as we let God point out the right person for us. If not, our hearts can run ahead of our good senses and we miss important warnings that we otherwise would have never ignored. Philippians 4:6 says, ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God.” Set boundaries. Be patient.

Enjoy love.
