Color Me Love
The recent book by Ralph Richard Banks entitled, “Is Marriage for White People?” attempts to tackle the single African-American female syndrome. In short, he concludes that African-American women need to “think outside of the race.” He accuses African-American women of creating a breed of African-American men that require sexual intimacy without ever having to commit because…This is where he loses me.
He turns the dating game into an economic playing field of supply and demand. He says because we women throw ourselves at these men in abundance, they in turn feel empowered to treat us any way they want. In theory, he believes if African-American women would decrease the available supply by dating outside of the race, African-American men would be more inclined to “behave.” Do you really think that would make them change?
While I agree with his conclusion about “thinking outside of the race,” I really don’t want to play games with my heart. More important than making the right chess move is discovering how to live life in the blind. Colorblind that is. What if we could not see skin color? 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “For the Lord does not see as man sees; man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.”
If you want to look at your love life as one strategic move after the next, try this strategy. Develop a relationship with the Lord through Jesus Christ and let Him lead you to the man who has a heart for you.
