Male Love

Spread the love

In Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, Steve Harvey says that if a man loves you he will want to profess it, provide for you, and protect you. He calls these three points the Three Ps of Love. Harvey frames this discussion on the belief that women want men to love like we love. His argument is that while men don’t love like women, they do love.

He then gives us clues about how men act when they are really in love. What disturbs me about this discussion is that I felt like I was being prepared for battle. I finished Chapter Two feeling like there is an enemy in our midst and I need to know how to distinguish the real lovers from the fake ones. Harvey does try to give us practical tips, but he leaves out the most practical one.

A while ago I remember telling a guy who I liked that I had not intentions of having sex before marriage. I never heard from him again. Unsuspecting me was shocked. I learned a painful but important lesson. Because I obeyed God by reframing from premarital sex, I was protected from a fake lover. The Bible says that God’s, “…word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105) I have heard it said that God will keep you if you want to be kept. In other words, God gives us instructions but we have to decide to follow them.
