Open Marriage????

What is an open marriage? I understand that it is the agreement to allow your partner to have sex with other people but the concept seems so contradictory. To my surprise when I looked the term up in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary it says marriage is, “(1) the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage .

The first definition does not exclude the concept of an open marriage. According to that definition, I suppose as long as there is a contract, there is a marriage. The second definition, which adds the politically correct spin, alludes to a “traditional” marriage. In other words, marriage comes in a variety of flavors from which we can select to fit our taste. Wow! Can we really redefine marriage? Is “marriage” done any kind of way still marriage?

When God speaks of marriage, He says, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh.” (Matthew 19:5,6) We can create all kinds of relationships paradigms and slap the label marriage on them, but marriage done any other way is not marriage. Don’t be ashamed to expect a man to MARRY you.
