Overcoming Temptation
On a clear day from in a tall building the view is beautiful. You can see forever. On the street where I walk, run, ride my bike, and drive, my vision is limited. When driving I want to run the red light, there are no other cars coming. I want to give the cashier at the fast food place a piece of my mind. I want to hang up the phone when I realize who is on the other end of the line. There is temptation all around me. I am tempted not to speak when someone just says “Good morning.” If I fail these small temptations how will I make it pass the big ones of stealing, cheating, lying, and sexual temptations?
Easy, 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” We ALL are tempted one way or another. How we overcome the temptation is by stopping and using the escape exit God has provided for us.
By not giving in to my temptations, I avoided a ticket, made the cashier smile, and was a listening ear for a friend. Step back and watch God allow you to overcome temptation by seeing Him. When we avoid temptations we remain in line for blessing.
