Love is in the Air

Valentine’s Day is the day designated to show your special someone how much you care.  There are big pink and red balloons with loving messages on them “Be Mine”, “I love you”, along with heart shaped boxes of chocolates of all flavors and fillings, cards with expressions of love and flowers- red roses-everywhere you look.  The message everyone is trying to convey is “I love you”.  But what is love anyway?

Many people have heard the “love” verses in the Bible from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.   It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.   Love never fails.”  But do you really look for those qualities in the person you are dating?

I know at first, you are attracted to what you see on the outside, his broad shoulders, the way he looks in those jeans, his smile, but what’s on the inside?  Too often as women we get stuck at how good he looks on our arm, but don’t focus on how he treats us and what his values are.  Yes, we have some general standards, but do we lose sight of them when people are admiring how fine he is?

We need to compare our man to the Bible standards, is he patient with you, kind, not easily angered and not keeping a record of all the issues you have had in the past?  Does he think about you and consider your feelings instead of only his when making plans and does he tell the truth?  I know it can be hard to find that special man, but he is worth the wait instead of the headache!
