Who? Me? Jealous?
When we meet a guy wouldn’t it be nice if all the other women in the world would go away, except friends and family, of course. But instead they strut around with cute bodies in cute clothes. What about the friends he knew before you met him? Some of them are cool but some of them need to drop off of the face of the earth.
Sound familiar? Perhaps you have a problem with jealousy. I know. It’s a shameful thing to admit because it clues us into our own insecurities. All of us like to think of ourselves as secure and confident, but sometimes we all get a little jealous, right? My problem is knowing when I have reason to be jealous. Help!
The Bible says that God gets jealous. Exodus 34:14 says, “for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” Since God created us, provides for us and loves us, He gets rightfully jealous when we adore other things (other gods) instead of the One to whom adoration is rightfully due.
True, our jealousy can get out of hand. But after the care, respect and kindness we extend to our mates, we truly deserve their full adoration. We don’t want to share that with someone who may satisfy some fleshly desire he has but who has not sacrificed her time and heart like us. Girl, you deserve your props! Btw, have you given God His?
